DIY week continued: Designer friends

I know I just recently started a new series of posts called Weekly DIY, however I have seen so many great DIY's that I just had to post more than one this week, especially because this one's from a friend of mine. Blogosphere meet Natalie, interior designer extraordinaire! Natalie was kind enough to send me some pictures of her most recent DIY projects.

This girl has killer style, and a great design eye, and she can do it all on a dime! Oh yes my kind of gal :)

Her first project is this lovely tufted ottoman, in her own words:

"ottoman made from scratch: I found a small ottoman in the garbage, took the legs off, sprayed them , built a frame out of plywood and 2"x2", put 4" foam and batting on it, upholstered it, tufted it (handmade buttons were made of the same fabric) then I hot glue gunned the tassle trim around the bottom."

Isn't her place awesome

The second DIY is her stylish lamp:

"I took a roll of ribbon ($1.50) cut it to height and hot glue gunned it over the spines of an old lamp shade, the lamp base was from Frontiers....of course."

If anyone is interested in some custom work by Natalie or a consultation you can message me via WALLPAPER's email until her website is up and running.

Adornments

I added a much needed chocolate brown ribbon to the lamp shade in the living room, I love how this small project changes the look of the lamp. It looks dramatic and sophisticated all in one and it really pops against the neutral drapes.

Anyone ever added trim, ribbon, paint or rearrange things or furniture to make them look brand new and current?

What's new...DIY lamp shade

With the cold weather still looming I can't quite set up shop and spray paint to my hearts content...which to be quite honest sucks! I am going through spray painting withdrawal and my projects are all on the back burner. As a way to supress my craft cravings I resorted to painting with yup you guessed it acrylics!

I wanted a reading floor lamp in my room by my reading chair. I made several trips to HomeSense but hadn't quite found what I was looking for (altough I did pick up a great new mirror which you can see in the after pictures). I went online shopping, I did find a few things I liked but they were way out of my price range.

I was feeling hopeless when I remembered that I had this old Ikea floor lamp in off white that had been gifted to me. Off I went with my black acrylic paint and here is the result:

Updates

I am finally done with the pretty lamp I got a while ago and I have to say I am pretty happy with it! It was very masculine looking before, with all the black, and I knew that in order for it to fit in my house it had to be elegant and feminine. Off to Lowe's and HomeSense I went for some metallic spray paint and a new lamp shade. What do you all think?
